Understandably, assignment sheets vary widely between disciplines, programs, and courses to meet expectations and learning outcomes of our respective fields. However, from students’ perspectives, this inconsistency in design can lead to feeling overwhelmed, confused, and adopting a negative expectation for many assignments. To prevent these feelings of stress or anxiety, certain elements in each assignment can be included to support student engagement and knowledge transfer across disciplines. For this workshop, attendees can expect to learn four specific ways to redesign their assignments and will leave with at least one revised assignment sheet or rubric. Faculty should bring copies of one or two of their assignment sheets or rubrics to rework and redesign.
