About

Juliette Kitchens, Ph.D., is a Professor of writing and media in the Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences (HCAS) where she serves as the Director of Graduate Studies for Composition, Rhetoric, and Digital Media and program coordinator for Applied Professional Studies. Dr. Kitchens teaches a range of writing, media, technology, and professional studies courses in the university's First Year Composition program, Writing Minor, Applied Professional Studies major, and in the Composition, Rhetoric, and Digital Media graduate program, as well as courses in the Honors program (Farquhar Honors College). She designs student-centered courses emphasizing professional readiness and encourages students to investigate their interests, communities, and (digital) environments as they prepare for their future.
 
Dr. Kitchens's research interests include identity studies, rhetorics of popular culture, rhetorics of technologies, and professional education and readiness. She has been awarded multiple grants across diverse organizations and won multiple book awards. She regularly presents at international, national, and regional conferences representing a range of interdisciplinary scholarship. Selected publications include Stories of Becoming: Demystifying the Professoriate for Graduate Students in Composition and RhetoricTransmediating the Whedonverse(s): Essays on Texts, Paratexts, and Metatexts; and Slaying is Hell: Essays on Trauma and Memory in the Whedonverse.
