Kershen Huang

I am an Associate Professor of Finance at Nova Southeastern University. I received my Ph.D. in Finance from Texas A&M University in 2011 and also hold dual M.S. degrees in Economics and Finance from the same institution. I earned my B.A. in Economics from National Chung Cheng University, which is located in Taiwan. Before joining NSU, I was on the finance faculty of Bentley University.

My research interest lies primarily in empirical corporate, with a current focus on the interactions between investor heterogeneity, externalities, and firm policies, as well as their relations with agency issues and capital prices. My studies have been published in Financial Management, the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, the Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Corporate Finance, the Journal of Futures Markets, Management Science, and the Quarterly Journal of Finance. In addition, I serve on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Review of Accounting and Finance.

Through all stages of my life since graduation from high school, I have had a tight engagement with teaching activities: Aside from my academic career, I was a tutor in college, a drill sergeant in the Republic of China (Taiwan) Army, and a course instructor in graduate school. I also coached soccer at my local AYSO region. I currently offer business, economics, and special topics courses at the Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship and the Farquhar Honors College of NSU.

I enjoy spending time with my students and find those interactions refreshing and inspiring. I strongly see how teaching and research comprise an ecosystem where the two fuel each other: Some of my academic research topics were originated from classroom discussions and my research results often contribute to flourishing my classes.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, restaurant-hunting, and watching horror movies.
