Marie Cuvelier is an Instructor in the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences (HCAS). She received a Master of Science in Marine Biology from Nova Southeastern University. She then earned her Ph.D. in Marine Biology and Fisheries from the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science (RSMAS) at the University of Miami, collaborating closely with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). Her areas of research encompass various aspects of microbial ecology, with a specific focus on small eukaryotic phytoplankton and microorganisms associated with marine sponges.

She teaches a variety of courses including in Microbiology, Biology and Marine Biology and has a genuine passion for sharing her expertise of microbes and the marine world. She is committed to create an inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and encouraged to grow and become active members of the scientific community.
