Rachel Panton

Dr. Rachel Panton is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing and Communication in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Nova Southeastern University. She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a specialization in Adult Learning and Development using narrative research and portraiture methodology to write the life stories of three holistic Africana women community educators of South Florida.

Dr. Panton has taught writing for 19 years and her courses and interests primarily focus on women's narratives of wellness and transformation. Most recently, she served as a guest editor for the University of California, Berkeley’s Race and Yoga Journal, where she led the publication for Sassin’ Through Sadhana, a special volume dedicated to the stories of black women yoga instructors, inspired by her dissertation research. As a writing coach, editor, and ghostwriter, Dr. Panton also serves women in the community who have inspiring memoirs to tell of hope, growth, and healing. Her most recent scholarly work has appeared in Black Women’s Mental Health: Balancing Strength and Vulnerability (SUNY, 2017) and New Directions in Teaching and Learning (Jossey-Bass, 2016).
