About

Vicki Toscano, J.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of philosophy and legal studies in the Department of Humanities and Politics at NSU's Halmos College of Arts and Sciences (HCAS). She held the Hourani Scholarship for Ethics and the Gilbert D. Moore Fellowship at the University of Buffalo. She then held the Dorothea S. ClarkeGender, Sexuality, and Family Fellowship at Cornell University. Prior to working at NSU, Dr. Toscano taught at University of Miami Law School and held a visiting scholar position at Keele University in England.

Dr. Toscano's current research projects examine reproductive rights law in the U.S. through the lens of constitutional jurisprudence and bioethical ideals. She has published on this topic in leading legal journals in the U.S. and England and in a feminist bioethics journal as well as delivered several academic conference papers on this theme in recent years. She has also been invited to give talks to the community on a variety of related topics including the morality and legality of abortion, the death penalty, physician assisted suicide and medical marijuana.

Her primary passion, however, is working closely with undergraduate students to develop their critical thinking skills through writing and close analysis of philosophical/legal arguments. Dr. Toscano seeks to help students become better and more careful thinkers, not only to enable them to perform more successfully in their future endeavors but also to encourage them to define their own conception of personal fulfillment.
