Abstract
A semigroup is a chameleon if it is the reduct of both a finitely based involution semigroup and a non-finitely based involution semigroup. Presently, the smallest published example of a chameleon is of order eight. This article constructs two smaller examples: a semigroup of order seven and a monoid of order six. The latter turns out to be a smallest chameleon among monoids.
