Abstract
“Shade” was created for six dancers and delves into identity, identification, and the question, “What are you?” Soledade did extensive research into these issues including exploring “Voguing,” a movement in NYC in the late sixties and seventies as a means for young urban outcasts to band together for strength and social acceptance. “Shade” included an original score created by Jessica Muñiz-Collado, M.F.A., and an art piece by Kandy Lopez, M.F.A. All three faculty members are in the Department of Performing and Visual Arts in CAHSS.
